With its strategic significance in the Eastern Mediterranean, Cyprus has historically been dominated by many different cultures reflecting the rich cultural heritage of such cultures through the architectural works. The Ottoman period on the island has also left its mark on today's historical urban textures with many architectural works. As the subject matter of our study, grave monuments with a history of more than four hundred years, have not been analyzed and documented until now. Such monuments located either in an independent building or a small complex, are built with stone material, simple facades, square-planned cubic and baldachin style. Our study, which was conducted with qualitative research method, firstly explains the concept of grave monument after the introduction; then it examines the tradition of grave monument in Turks, its evolution before and after Islam and discusses the changes while coming from Central Asia to Anatolia respectively. This study also provides the brief history of Cyprus as well as the general information about the Ottoman period grave monuments on the island.
